Applied work in Bioinformatics

BIN36, BINP38

An applied work, an internship, gives you an opportunity to practice in a relevant workplace. You can do an applied work within the university or at a company. You can do it in Sweden or abroad. These courses are available only for students within the Master’s programme in Bioinformatics at the Department of Biology.

Course outlines

Before the start

Contact a supervisor within the area of your interest. Before proceeding, you should show your CV and LADOK excerpt to the supervisor. Note that the internship can be conducted outside the university, e.g. at a company.

Write a plan of the internship together with your supervisor. The plan should be brief, but give a clear description of your specific work tasks. It should contain:

  • Name and e-mail addresses to you and the supervisor
  • Topic, time, and number of credits
  • The specific work tasks of your internship and how it relates to Bioinformatics

During the project

Document your work systematically i a diary or in a README file. Try to participate in group meetings, seminars, etc that may be arranged in the group or at the department where you are working.

To complete the course an internship report should be written. The report shall contain a description of the various tasks performed, and a summary your results and experiences from the work. If the work was performed outside Lund University a description of the workplace should be included.
