Molecular Genetics of Eukaryotes BIOR49

Course description

In this course we focus on genetic information and its different molecular aspects. You will study the structure of DNA and chromatin, and develop an understanding for how the expression of genetic information is regulated. You will engage yourself in the questions concerning how the DNA is maintained, organized and evolving. The course is research oriented, and we put a lot of attention to the latest discoveries in gene technology. Because the course includes a major practical part, you will gain experience of molecular biology techniques for the analysis of gene structure and function.

This is a full time course and it will be rather intensive. Among the mandatory parts of the course are: group studies concerning regulation of gene expression, experimental laboratory work, lab reports and students' literature seminars.

There will be a mandatory exam ("dugga") on basic knowledge in genetics. 

We advice you to read the indicated chapters in the course book already before starting the course.
